5 Things That Don't Make Sense But Work

There are a number of new trends, new products and new activities that are constantly being introduced and sometimes we might look twice at them and be utterly confused about its effectiveness.

Evolving research and modern technology allows for creativity to run wild and also make sense. Here 5 things that don't make sense, but surprisingly work!

1. EMS training

Imagine getting the effects of a three-hour workout in only 20 short minutes. Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? Well its not! EMS training (electrical muscle stimulation) is a machine that delivers electrical pulses to stimulate muscle contraction. EMS heightens to contractions you already get when you’re working out at a much higher level, meaning your workout is cut in half but has the same, if not greater effect. It makes your exercise even more challenging and can help you burn more calories. A Wall Street Journal reporter said it made her two-kilo weights feel like nine kilos.

2. IPL/Laser

Unlike short-term hair removal methods, for example; shaving, creams or waxing, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), is a modern type of hair removal used for permanent/long term. The light energy from IPL is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, which then turns into heat and destroys the hair cells. At-home kits are now becoming popular which means you can get rid of the hair you don't want in the comfort of your own home.

3. Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is a form of therapy used to treat a variety of tissue lesions. It has also become a popular way to lose excess fat. Even once you have had your Cryo treatment your brain sends signals to the rest of your body to pump blood to your core to increase your body heat and therefore increase your metabolic rate burning around 500-800 calories per 3-minute session. Sounds like a win-win really and you’ll leave feeling a million bucks!

4. Drinking fish

Dissolving processed fish parts in your morning smoothie or water doesn’t sound overly appealing, but celebs are raving about marine supplements! Jennifer Aniston and Kourtney Kardashian have both said it’s their anti-ageing secret. Marine collagen, as the name suggests, is derived from deep-sea or freshwater fish. It comes from the parts that would usually be discarded during processing, the scales and skin. The collagen peptides are then processed into a tasteless, easily dissolvable powder.

There are many benefits of consuming collagen, it can help support hair and nails, younger-looking skin, and improve joint health. Some brands also hint at improved gut health, reduced cellulite and treatment for acne.

5. Weighted blanket

Do you suffer from anxiety or find it hard to fall asleep? If so, then weighted blankets could be the cure. They are the new kid on the block and they are a natural remedy to help those who suffer from insomnia or anxiety. They basically hold a light pressure on your body that helps us relax and feel at ease. Body + Soul have written a great article on their experience with them.
